Mural Art Installation
Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) launches the project “Mural Art Installation” at Kowloon Park in February 2026 in order to promote the three museums under LCSD, including Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Railway Museum and Hong Kong Space Museum. Their iconic exhibits are showcased on the mural, which also incorporates interactive photo-taking elements to enhance public engagement and their interest in visiting museums.
Location of Mural Art:
Kowloon Park Piazza (Kowloon Park entrance on Park Lane in Tsim Sha Tsui; piazza next to the female toilet)
The Hong Kong Space Museum, located at the seaside of Tsim Sha Tsui, has become an indispensable institution for astronomy education in Hong Kong since its opening in October 1980. The Museum actively organises a diverse range of exhibitions and activities to promote the popularisation of astronomy and space science.
The Museum houses two exhibition halls, where interesting hands-on exhibits enhanced by lighting effects and environmental decorations, introduce visitors to astronomy and space science in a vivid approach. For example, the "Gravity Surfing" exhibit allows you to stand on surfing boards to venture through celestial bodies to understand how gravity wraps space. In the “Disorientation in Space” exhibit, you can experience the sensation of weightlessness inside a virtual space station, where the concepts of up and down become distorted.
The Museum features a planetarium with a 23-metre-diameter hemispherical screen that showcases immersive sky shows and 3D dome shows. Equipped with a state-of-art digital planetarium projection system, it can compute the movement of celestial bodies in real time, simulating starry skies at various times and locations, providing an engaging experience for the audience. The unique egg-shaped dome has been one of the most iconic landmarks in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, in the areas of Sai Kung with reduced light pollution, the Museum has established the Astropark and iObservatory, dedicated to stargazing activities and astronomical research.
