A number of astronomical events are worth seeing in 2017 including a total solar eclipse and a periodic meteor shower. A total solar eclipse occurred on 21 August 2017. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow ran across the United States but the event was not visible in Hong Kong. On the other hand, the Geminid meteor shower was the most spectacular meteor shower in 2017. The shower peaked on 14 December at about 2:30 p.m. but the evening of 13 December till the morning of 14 December was the best time to observe.
The Hong Kong Space Museum staged the special exhibition "2017 Astronomical Events" from April to September 2017 at the foyer. Simulating the spectacular stages of the astronomical events, the exhibition provided more information about the total solar eclipse and the Geminid meteor shower and the observation tips of these interesting astronomical events.
