Since late March this year, the eastern sky has been busy with serial planetary events during the dawn hours. Perhaps the "busiest" one is the third event - Four Planets + Waning Crescent. Four bright planets will line up with the waning crescent Moon next week.

The quadruple of planets that will join the lineup involve the brightest and white-looking Venus (magnitude -4.2), yellowish Jupiter (magnitude -2.1), and equally bright orange-red Mars and yellowish Saturn (magnitude 0.9). From the top down to the eastern horizon, the order will be Saturn👉🏻Mars👉🏻Venus👉🏻Jupiter. The planets will stretch out diagonally and light up the daybreak sky before sunrise for four days (25-28 April). They will also take turns to pair up with the waning crescent Moon🌙.

The Moon and the planets move along near the ecliptic in the sky. That's why they will occasionally appear in close proximity to one another as seen on Earth. The relative positions of the planets as viewed from space and their orbits as viewed from Earth during the planetary event are shown in the diagram.

Here are the observing tips:
👀: the naked eye is all you need
📍: go to a site with an unobstructed view of the sky and horizon in the east to southeast direction. Suggested locations include Siu Sai Wan, Clear Water Bay, Sai Kung Waterfront Park, Tai Po Waterfront Park, etc.
🕠 : 4:45-5:15 a.m.
